TDI Review

Olandria Carthen has turned her Love Island USA breakout into an exceptional run of brand deals. In little more than a year, she has become one of the show’s most commercially in-demand recent alumni, with the volume of partnerships she has secured earning her a place in the Highly Rated tier.

Carthen’s roster already includes partnerships with NYX Cosmetics, Reebok and UGG, while Barbie made her the face of its “You Can Be Any Barbie” campaign at Coachella. Crucially, that demand has continued even as a new season of Love Island has come and gone, with MAC Cosmetics among the latest major brands to work with her.

Some of those relationships are also becoming more substantial. In May, Carthen collaborated with Brandon Blackwood on her first fashion collection, comprising three bags and a bag charm in colours including her signature “Bama Barbie” pink. The collection sold out within 10 minutes of launching.

Now she wants to sell something of her own. Carthen is developing a bodycare brand, which she has said could include body oils, and in September confirmed the venture was in its early building stages. After an unusually strong first year of selling other companies’ products, building one herself is the obvious next test of Carthen’s commercial pull.

NYX Cosmetics partnered with Love Island USA runners-up and fan-favourite couple Olandria Carthen and Nic Vansteenberghe on the Nicolandria Lip Combo, a kit featuring Carthen’s go-to NYX shades — two brown glosses and a matching liner. Promoted through a flirty ad where Carthen tests the combo by kissing Vansteenberghe, the campaign hit 4.6M views and sold out within hours.
