Netflix taps Alex Cooper to produce Hannah Grace's Icebreaker
Hannah Oladele | Jun 19, 2026

Call Her Daddy founder Alex Cooper is moving into producing, partnering with Netflix to adapt Hannah Grace's bestselling novel Icebreaker for television.
The book, a BookTok favourite and New York Times bestseller, follows a figure skater and hockey player who fall for each other while sharing a practice rink.
Cooper will produce alongside her husband, film producer Matt Kaplan, and Unwell chief content officer Mina Lefevre, through their company Unwell Productions. Amanda Lasher, known for her work on Gossip Girl, will serve as showrunner.
The deal is the latest sign of creators expanding into film and television, as studios and streamers increasingly look to digital talent for projects with built-in audiences.
Netflix has been at the forefront of that shift. Earlier this year, it commissioned unscripted series from TikTok star Alix Earle and a scripted show from YouTube Shorts creator Alan Chikin Chow. Meanwhile, Amelia Dimoldenberg, creator of Chicken Shop Date, is developing and starring in a romantic comedy for Orion Pictures, part of Amazon MGM Studios.
Cooper rose to prominence in 2018 when she launched the Call Her Daddy podcast, whose unfiltered conversations about dating and relationships quickly built a loyal following among young women.
