Patreon has signed a three-year partnership with The Cutting Room Floor, the fashion podcast hosted by Recho Omondi, as the membership platform deepens its investment in creator-led media businesses.
The Cutting Room Floor sits in the top 1% of podcasts on Patreon. Omondi launched the show in 2018 and moved it exclusively to the platform in 2021, building a listener-supported business at a time when many creators were pursuing advertising revenue and platform deals.
The new agreement will support the show's production and team infrastructure as Omondi expands The Cutting Room Floor into a fully independent media company.
Speaking in a video announcing the partnership, Omondi said she hoped the deal would demonstrate what creators can build through direct audience support.
"I think it sets a precedent to creators that you actually can build your own independent business," she said.
Patreon chief executive Jack Conte said the partnership reflected what the platform was trying to build.
"You're scaling this enterprise around your creativity in a way that's rare and inspiring and emblematic of what we want to help creators do in the world," he told Omondi.
The deal comes as platforms increasingly compete to secure relationships with established creators. Last month, Jay Shetty announced a reported $100 million partnership with Spotify that will bring On Purpose to Netflix, marking a significant shift away from YouTube.
Patreon's move reflects a different approach. While some platforms are pursuing large-scale exclusivity deals with established creators, Patreon is backing a business built around paying subscribers.
