TikTok expands earning opportunities for South African creators

TikTok is giving South African creators more ways to earn from brand partnerships as it expands TikTok One to the country.
The platform connects creators with brands and agencies for paid campaigns, while also allowing them to earn from existing TikTok videos that brands choose to promote as ads.
Three options are available to South African creators. Those with at least 500 followers can use Spark Opportunity to earn when brands promote their existing videos as Spark Ads.
Creators with at least 1,000 followers can also take part in Creative Challenge, producing videos in response to brand briefs and earning based on the content's performance and the amount brands spend promoting it.
A third option, Creator Led Package, allows approved creator marketing agencies to invite creators to take part in individual campaigns.
Creators must sign up to TikTok One in the app, while eligibility for individual campaigns can vary depending on their requirements.
The expansion comes as creators across Africa continue to face limited access to the monetisation programmes available in other markets.
"By bringing creators, brands and agencies together in one place, TikTok One can help unlock new partnerships and income streams for creators, while giving businesses more ways to tap into the creativity and influence of South Africa's creator community," said Zethu Mthethwa, head of sales at TikTok in Sub-Saharan Africa.
TikTok One began rolling out globally in 2024, bringing the company's creator and brand collaboration tools, including Creator Marketplace and Creative Challenge, into a single platform.
The expansion into South Africa comes as participation in TikTok One grows globally. Between June 2025 and May 2026, the number of creators receiving rewards through the platform increased 90% year on year, while creators took part in more than twice as many brand collaborations each month.
