Creators will now be listed side-by-side with actors and others in the film and TV industry on IMDb, the latest turning point in a year that has seen the boundaries between the sectors increasingly blur.

IMDb’s new "Digital Creator" category, which rolled out on September 9, gives creators a way to represent their work and be discovered by those working in the TV and film production space.

Creators don’t need existing film or TV credits to create a profile and any credits they go on to earn will appear alongside their creator designation as their career develops. Six sub-professions, Streamer, Vlogger, Video Essayist, Video Creator, Gaming Creator and Influencer, are included under the category.

IMDb chief executive Nikki Santoro said the move seeks to give creators the same discoverability as others working in the entertainment space.

"Digital creators and their representatives need that same infrastructure, and producers, casting directors, studio executives, and brand partners need a reliable way to find them," she said in a statement.

The announcement comes as the gap between creators and traditional entertainment continues to shrink, with 2026 bringing increased crossover between the two. Netflix has brought a slew of creator-led shows onto its platform, while the BBC has rolled out programmes designed to launch on YouTube first.
